Disclaimer
Tank Math Lab publishes general information for freshwater aquarium hobbyists. Please read the following before acting on anything you find here.
Estimates, not guarantees
Calculator outputs depend on your inputs and on the stated assumptions. Real tanks differ in feeding, filter maturity, water source and the behavior of individual animals. Always confirm with water tests (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, KH) and by watching your fish.
Animal health
Nothing on this site is veterinary advice. For sick fish or invertebrates, follow the instructions on medication labels and consult a qualified aquatic veterinarian.
Chemicals
Ammonia, ammonium chloride, water conditioners and test reagents can be hazardous. Read product safety labels, work in a ventilated area, keep chemicals away from children and pets, and never add dosing ammonia to a tank containing animals.
Electrical safety
Water and electricity are a dangerous combination. Use equipment rated for aquarium use, plug it into a GFCI (RCD) protected outlet, give every cord a drip loop, and unplug heaters and filters before putting your hands in the tank.
Local rules
Some species are regulated or banned in certain states and countries. Never release aquarium animals or plants into the wild.
